Es handelt sich um einen mehrwöchigen Tanzwettbewerb, in dem Paare, jeweils bestehend aus einem/einer Prominenten und einem/einer Profitänzer/-in antreten. Das von Fenia Vardanis entwickelte Format wurde in viele andere Länder exportiert; die deutsche Fassung läuft unter dem Titel Let’s Dance, die österreichische unter dem Titel Dancing Stars. Programformatet har blivit populärt och spridits till flera länder däribland USA och Sverige som sänder formatet under namnen Dancing with the Stars respektive Let's Dance. Programformatet innebär att en grupp kända personer utan dansvana tränas av och tävlar med varsin proffsdansare. De tävlar i de tio danser som ingår i tävlingsdans. En jury bestående av professionella tävlingsdansdomare bedömer paren, och TV-publiken kan rösta via telefon. The Guinness World Records named Strictly to be the world's most successful reality television format in 2010. The series is currently presented by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.
