- The Lanz Bulldog was a series of tractors manufactured by Heinrich Lanz AG in Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Production started in 1921 with the Lanz HL, and various versions of the Bulldog were produced up to 1960, one of them being the Lanz Bulldog D 9506. John Deere purchased Lanz in 1956 and started using the name "John Deere Lanz" for the Lanz product line. A few years after the Bulldog was discontinued the Lanz name fell into disuse. The Lanz Bulldog was one of the most popular German tractors, with over 220,000 of them produced in its long production life. The name "Bulldog" is widely used in Germany as a synonym for tractors even today, especially in Bavaria. (en)

A 1956 la Deere & Company va adquirir Lanz, utilitzant el nom de John Deere Lanz com a nova línia de producció dels vells "Heinrich Lanz". A 1960 Deere & Company va optar per tancar la producció de Bulldog i el nom Lanz cau en desús. El Bulldog era un tractor poc costós, simple i de fàcil manteniment. Constituït per un motor de dos temps amb un únic cilindre horitzontal. Inicialment el motor era de 6,3 litres i amb 12 Cavalls, successivament es va fent més gran, arribant als 10,9 litres i amb 54 cavalls. El Bulldog era un dels tractors més difosos a Alemanya, amb 250.000 unitats produïdes al llarg dels anys, per això va ser copiat en altres països, com Polònia, amb el nom de Ursus C-45 i C-451, després de la segona guerra mundial. També en Argentina, es va construir un tractor similar per la State Industry Company IAME, sota el nom de "Pampa". La seva producció va cessar en 1963, amb 3.760 unitats produïdes per al mercat local. El Bulldog és també similar al produït amb la marca , a Anglaterra. (ca)

- Lanz Bulldog war die Verkaufsbezeichnung für Ackerschlepper, die die 1956 von John Deere übernommene Heinrich Lanz AG in Mannheim von 1921 bis 1957 herstellte. Durch diese Traktoren prägte sich der Name Bulldog in Teilen Deutschlands als umgangssprachlicher Gattungsname für einen Ackerschlepper. Ursprünglich war Bulldog die Bezeichnung für den von Lanz hergestellten stationären Einzylinder-Zweitakt-Glühkopfmotor, zunächst noch mit Wasser-Verdampfungskühlung und erst später mit Thermosiphonkühlung, dessen Aussehen eine Ähnlichkeit mit dem Gesicht einer Bulldogge hatte. Er war die Grundlage des ersten Ackerschleppers Lanz Bulldog HL12, den die Heinrich Lanz AG 1921 auf der DLG in Leipzig vorstellte und der als der „Ur“-Bulldog gilt. Der Erfolg des Bulldogs war in seiner Einfachheit und Robustheit begründet. Hinzu kam, dass er als Vielstoffmotor mit kostengünstigem Rohöl u. ä. betrieben werden konnte und gegenüber den ersten Dieseltraktoren als zuverlässiger galt. In anderen Disziplinen wie Zugleistung, Technologie oder Verbrauch waren die Bulldogs den Dieselschleppern allerdings eher unterlegen. Trotzdem konnten sich Lanz-Bulldog-Ackerschlepper zumindest in Deutschland für viele Jahrzehnte behaupten, da ihr einfaches Glühkopfmotor-Prinzip günstig zu produzieren war und geringe Ansprüche an Zündwilligkeit und Klopffestigkeit des Kraftstoffs stellt.
