- James Edward Talmage (21 September 1862 – 27 July 1933) was an English chemist, geologist, and religious leader who served as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 1911 until his death. A professor at Brigham Young Academy (BYA) and University of Utah (U of U), Talmage also served as president of the U of U and Latter-day Saints' University. In addition to his academic career, Talmage authored several books on religion, the most prominent of which are Jesus the Christ and Articles of Faith. Despite first being published in 1915 and 1899, the books remain classics in Mormon literature. An academic and religious scholar, Talmage did not believe that science conflicted with his religious views. Regarding the conflicting Mormon views on evolution, Talmage attempted to mediate between church leaders B.H. Roberts and Joseph Fielding Smith who disagreed about evolution and the origin of man. In addition to his academic and religious involvement, Talmage was involved in local political leadership in Provo as a city council member, alderman, and justice of the peace. (en)

- James Edward Talmage, född 21 september 1862 i Hungerford, Berkshire, England, död 27 juli 1933 i Salt Lake City, Utah, USA var en vetenskapsman, författare och medlem i de tolv apostlarnas kvorum i Jesu Kristi Kyrka av Sista Dagars Heliga. Han växte upp i Hungerford i England och döptes till Jesu Kristi kyrka av Sista dagars heliga vid tio års ålder. Han flyttade sedan med sin familj till Provo, Utah där han studerade vid Brigham Young University. Han studerade sedan vid fler andra lärosäten. Bland annat studerade han kemi och geologi. Han undervisade en tid vid Brigham Young University. Han var president för Latter-day Saints' University och sedan för University of Deseret (numera University of Utah). 1888 gifte han sig med Merry May Booth. Paret fick åtta barn. Talmage skrev flera religiösa böcker, bland annat The Articles of Faith, The Great Apostasy, The House of the Lord och Jesus the Christ. Dessa böcker är fortfarande mycket populära bland mormoner. 1911 blev han medlem i de tolv apostlarnas kvorum, vilket han förblev till sin död. 1924-1928 var han också president för kyrkans europeiska mission.
