Welch) (8 نيسان 1850 – 30 نيسان 1934) كان طبيباً أمريكياً ومختصاً في علم الأمراض وعلم الجراثيم ومديراً لمدرسة طبيبة، وأحد المؤسسين الأربعة الكبار لمستشفى جونز هوبكنز أول عميد لمدرسة طب جامعة جونز هوبكنز ومؤسس ، وهي أول مدرسة صحة عمومية في البلاد. اشتهر ويليام هنري ولتش بمجموع أعماله المعاصرة المقنعة أكثر من أبحاثه العلمية، وتحمل مكتبة مدرسة طب جامعة جونز هوبكنز اسمه. خلال حياته كان يسمى بعميد الطب الأمريكي، وحصل على الكثير من الجوائز والتكريم في حياته وبعد وفاته. Er war einer der einflussreichsten Mediziner im ausgehenden 19. und beginnenden 20. Jahrhundert in den USA. Er spielte eine führende Rolle sowohl bei der Bekämpfung einer schwerwiegenden Masernepidemie in den 1910er Jahren als auch bei der Bekämpfung der Spanischen Grippe, die weltweit von 1918 bis 1920 grassierte und mindestens 25 Millionen Tote forderte. He was one of the "Big Four" founding professors at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was the first dean of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and was also the founder of the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health, the first school of public health in the country. Welch was more known for his cogent summations of current scientific work, than his own scientific research. The Johns Hopkins medical school library is also named after Welch.
