Die Grupo Soares da Costa ist die drittgrößte Baugesellschaft im Bereich Hoch- und Tiefbau in Portugal und im europäischen Ranking auf Platz 86. Das Unternehmen wurde im Jahre 1918 von in Porto mit zehn Arbeitern gegründet. Neunzig Jahre nach seinem Beginn widmet sich Soares da Costa außer dem Bau einer Reihe von verwandten Bereichen, wie Konzessionen, Industrie und Immobilien. Die Präsenz in internationalen Märkten, wie den Vereinigten Staaten und Angola, ist eines der Markenzeichen der Gruppe. Die Gruppe beschäftigt derzeit etwa 5 000 Mitarbeiter. Das Unternehmen ist im Euronext an der Börse Lissabon gelistet. Das Ende als Familienunternehmen kam mit der Neuausrichtung als Aktiengesellschaft im Jahr 1968, im Jahr 1986 folgte der Gang an die Börse von Lissabon und Porto. Hauptstandbein für Soares da Costa ist gegenwärtig der boomende Bausektor in Angola, gefolgt von Mosambik. Zukünftig will jedoch das Unternehmen mit Beteiligungen an kleineren Bauunternehmen in Brasilien den erwarteten Rückgang im portugiesischen Baugewerbe ausbalancieren. The corporate structure is based on three sub-holdings which correspond to three business groups: Construction, Concessions and Real Estate. The company was founded in 1918 in Oporto by . Today it possesses a strong international focus (over 70% per cent of their business volume in 2012 was of an international nature), with offices in Angola, Mozambique, United States (Florida), Brazil, Romania and Israel. Ranked among the 100 largest groups in the sector, the company maintains a permanent presence in the Portuguese speaking African countries. The activities of the Group in the international market have increased in importance, and in 2012 represented 70.5% of the business volume. The internationalization process began in 1979 with the creation of an associated company in Venezuela, reaching global dimension with activities in territories as diverse in nature as Iraq, Spain, Egypt, Germany, Macau, Barbados and Romania.
