The River Eden is a river in Fife in Scotland, and is one of Fife's two principal rivers, along with the Leven. It is nearly 30 miles (48 km) long and has a fall of around 300 feet (91 m). It flows from , near the border with Perth & Kinross, then slowly across the Howe of Fife (until drained in the 18th and 19th centuries a flat and waterlogged basin) and through the market town of Cupar to Guardbridge, where it enters the North Sea via the Eden Estuary, a nature reserve and an important conservation area for wading birds. The river holds a good stock of wild brown trout and hosts a fair run of sea trout and Atlantic salmon.

Es handelt sich um den nördlicher verlaufenden der beiden bedeutendsten Flüsse von Fife. Der Eden fließt in ostnordöstlicher Richtung und folgt dabei im Wesentlichen der Streckenführung der A91. Hierbei tangiert er die Ortschaften Auchtermuchty und Ladybank und durchfließt Cupar. Bei Guardbridge quert die A91 den Eden auf ihrem Weg nach St Andrews. Jenseits von Guardbridge weitet sich der Eden zu einem breiten, sandigen Ästuar und erreicht schließlich etwa drei Kilometer nördlich von St Andrews die Nordsee. Der Mündungsbereich wurde 1978 als Naturreservat deklariert. Im Winter siedeln dort Kasarkas und Pfuhlschnepfen. Auf seiner Länge von 48 km weist der Eden nur eine geringe Höhendifferenz auf. Aus diesem Grunde ist seine Fließgeschwindigkeit, insbesondere unterhalb von Cupar, sehr langsam. Er besitzt zahlreiche Zuflüsse, die jedoch ausnahmslos nur geringe Wassermengen eintragen. Das Tal des Eden gilt als fruchtbar. Früher trat der Eden des Öfteren über die Ufer. Maßnahmen gegen Überschwemmungen wurden jedoch bereits im 19. Jahrhundert getroffen. Zu dieser Zeit waren Forellen im Eden anzutreffen, wohingegen Lachse auf Grund verschiedener Dämme dem Flusslauf nicht aufwärts folgen konnten. (de)

The Eden Estuary is a Local Nature Reserve (LNR) and, along with the Firth of Tay, was designated a Ramsar site on 28 July 2000. Both estuaries host a variety of recreational activities. The Eden estuary, being significantly smaller than the Tay, has few boating opportunities, but is an important recreation site for birdwatchers and naturalists, foreshore shellfish collectors, fishing enthusiasts and wildfowlers.
