Odpovídá hodnosti maršál, neboli vrchního velitele jednotek SS. Od roku 1926 bylo pojmenování používáno jako formální titul hodnostně nejvyššího velitele SS. - Reichsführer-SS (RFSS) was een speciale Schutzstaffelrang die werd gedragen door Heinrich Himmler tussen 1934 en 1945. De rang is het equivalent van maarschalk of hoogste generaal in het leger. De rang van Reichsführer bestond al als een titel van Himmler, die hem als belangrijkste SS-Obergruppenführer neerzette. Voor 1930 werd hij gewoon gebruikt om aan te geven wie de baas was bij de SS. - Reichsführer SS – najwyższy stopień w całej SS. W tłumaczeniu: wódz SS w całej Rzeszy. Stopień ten w Wehrmachcie odpowiadał stopniowi feldmarszałka. Stopień ten był również najwyższym stopniem policji III Rzeszy – osoba posiadająca go dowodziła nie tylko całą SS, ale też całą policją. Początkowo, kiedy SS było podporządkowane SA, Reichsführer nie posiadał insygniów osobnych dla swej rangi. Dopiero Noc Długich Noży sprawiła, iż wyzwoliwszy się spod nadzoru SA, SS jako pełnoprawna jednostka paramilitarna Rzeszy uzyskała odpowiedni jej statusowi stopień dowódcy. Naramiennik
