  • Ar 25 Samhain 1974 i bParlaimint Westminister , ritheadh an tAcht Coiscthe Sceimhlitheoireachta (nó an PTA, Prevention of Terrorism Act) 1974 na Ríochta Aontaithe. Ag an am céanna, d'fhógair an tAire Briotanach, an 'Rúnaí Baile', Roy Jenkins, gur eagraíocht mhídhleathach a bhí san IRA Sealadach. Dúirt sé "The powers... are Draconian. (fr)

Cúpla lá roimhe sin, ar 21 Samhain 1974, pléascadh buamaí in dhá theach tábhairne in Birmingham agus maraíodh 21 Ritheadh an PTA mar fhreagairt ar an eachtra seo. Nó sin an leithscéal a bhí ann ag an am. I ndairíre, bhí an reachtaíocht ar na bacáin le tamall anuas.
