The Rev. Matthew J. Walsh, C.S.C. (May 14, 1882 – January 19, 1963) was an American priest and President of the University of Notre Dame from 1922 to 1928, after having served has Vice President 1912–22. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame and obtained a Ph.D. from the Catholic University of America, and attended courses at Columbia University, Johns Hopkins University . He served as military chaplain in World War I in 1918–19. He was professor of history at Notre Dame from 1908 to 1922 and then from 1935 to 1951.
