József Darvas (born József Dumitrás; 10 February 1912 – 3 December 1973) was a Hungarian writer and politician, who served as Minister of Religion and Education between 1950 and 1951, as Minister of Education between 1951 and 1953 and as Minister of Culture between 1953 and 1956. He was member of the Presidential Council of the People's Republic of Hungary since 1971.

Fra il 1936 e il 1937 fu uno dei redattori della rivista "Gondolat" (Pensiero), emanazione del partito comunista clandestino. Dopo il 1945 assunse importanti incarichi, tra cui quello prestigioso di ministro della cultura. Nel 1959 venne nominata presidente della neoricostituita Associazione degli scrittori. La sua carriera di scrittore e romanziere culminò nel 1936 con "A legnagyobb magyar falu" (il più grande villaggio ungherese), e due anni più tardi con "Egy parasztcsalàd torténete" (La storia di una famiglia contadina).
