| - Horror punk is a music genre that mixes punk rock and 1950s-influenced doo-wop and rockabilly sounds with morbid and violent imagery and lyrics which are often influenced by horror films and science fiction B-movies. The genre was pioneered by the Misfits in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Subsequent bands formed in the Misfits' wake like Mourning Noise, the Undead and Samhain, solidifying horror punk's first wave. In the late 1990s and early 2000s the genre gained attention through the reunion of the Misfits and success of groups like AFI, Son of Sam and the Murderdolls. This popularity continued to the modern day with Blitzkid, Calabrese and Creeper. (en)

Žánr je podobný a někdy zastřený deathrockem, i když deathrock má sklony víc k gothic zvuku, zatímco horror punk má sklony ke zvuku doo-wopu 50. let a rockabilly, připomínající éru rozkvetu sci-fi a hororových béčkových filmů. - Horrorpunk (soms horror-rock) is een punkgenre dat gekenmerkt wordt door (meestal) snelle gitaarriffs en geschreeuwde zangpartijen. Het muziekgenre combineert gothic- en punkinvloeden met morbide en/of agressief beeldwerk en agressieve teksten, die meestal zijn beïnvloed door horrorfilms of sciencefiction-B-films. Het genre is vergelijkbaar (en valt soms samen) met deathrock, alhoewel deathrock een meer atmosferisch-gothic-rockgeluid heeft, terwijl horrorpunk vaak is beïnvloed door de doowop en rockabilly-stijl van rond 1950. Het horrorpunkgeluid klinkt meestal wat agressiever en melodieuzer dan deathrock. (nl)

O gênero as vezes se sobrepõe ao death rock, embora o death rock se incline para um som mais gótico e atmosférico, enquanto o horror punk se inclina para um som punk mais caricato e menos atmosférico.
