Godfrey Matthew Hewitt (10 January 1940 – 18 February 2013) was a British professor and evolutionary geneticist at the University of East Anglia who was very influential in the development of the fields of molecular ecology, phylogeography, speciation and hybridisation.

Hewitt studierte an der University of Birmingham, an der er in Zytogenetik promoviert wurde, und 1965/66 als Post-Doktorand an der University of California, Davis. Ab 1966 war er Lecturer an der neu gegründeten University of East Anglia, an der er 1988 eine volle Professur erhielt. 2005 ging er in den Ruhestand. Er war seit 1960 mit Elizabeth Shattock verheiratet und hatte drei Söhne. (de)
