El efecto psicológico, según Lacan, es la pérdida de autonomía del sujeto al darse cuenta de que es un objeto visible. Este concepto está conectado con la teoría del estadio del espejo, en donde un niño frente al espejo se da cuenta de que tiene una apariencia exterior. Lacan sugiere que el efecto de mirada puede ser producido, de igual manera, con una silla o pantalla de televisión, esto no quiere decir que el objeto se comporta como espejo, sino que la conciencia de cualquier objeto lleva a la conciencia de "ser" un objeto. - In critical theory, sociology, and psychoanalysis, the gaze (French le regard), in the philosophical and figurative sense, is an individual's (or a group's) awareness and perception of other individuals, other groups, or oneself. The concept and the social applications of the gaze have been defined and explained by existentialist and phenomenologist philosophers.
