The Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), created by Aaron T. Beck and other colleagues, is a 21-question multiple-choice self-report inventory that is used for measuring the severity of anxiety in adolescents and adults ages 17 and older. The questions used in this measure ask about common symptoms of anxiety that the subject has had during the past week (including the day you take it) (such as numbness and tingling, sweating not due to heat, and fear of the worst happening). It is designed for individuals who are of 17 years of age or older and takes 5 to 10 minutes to complete. Several studies have found the Beck Anxiety Inventory to be an accurate measure of anxiety symptoms in children and adults.

Der Fragebogen ist als Screening für Ängste geeignet, wobei berücksichtigt werden muss, dass vor allem Symptome einer Panikstörung abgebildet werden, während andere Angststörungen zu wenig erfasst werden. Der Fragebogen wurde ursprünglich unter dem Titel Beck Anxiety Inventory von Aaron T. Beck im Jahr 1988 veröffentlicht. Die deutsche Übersetzung stammt von Jürgen Margraf und aus dem Jahr 2007. Er besteht aus 21 Fragen mit Antwortmöglichkeiten zwischen 0 und 3. Dementsprechend kann die Summe über alle Fagen zwischen 0 und 63 liegen. Es sollen Symptome in der vergangenen Woche beurteilt werden. Die Fragen wurden aufgrund der im DSM-IV genannten Symptome der Panikstörung und der Generalisierten Angststörung entwickelt. Es werden sowohl kognitive als auch körperliche Aspekte der Angst erfragt. Die Bearbeitungszeit wird auf 5 bis 10 Minuten geschätzt. Für die deutsche Fassung gebe es Normen bereits ab 12 Jahren. (de)

* 16-25: Moderate
* 26-63: Severe The BAI has been criticized for its predominant focus on physical symptoms of anxiety (most akin to a panic response). As such, it is often paired with the Penn State Worry Questionnaire, which provides a more accurate assessment of the cognitive components of anxiety (i.e., worry, catastrophizing, etc.) commonly seen in generalized anxiety disorder.
