The first appearance of the number "213" was with a Coast Artillery Corps anti-aircraft regiment first established on 1 May 1922. Major General John E. Stevens led the creation of the 1st Battalion, 213th ADA from the previous , with the new unit seemingly established in August 1989. By October 1, 1997, it was part of the 28th Infantry Division.
