Aufgrund der Austragung der Olympischen Winterspiele 2014 im russischen Sotschi fand ein Großteil der Saison ohne die kanadischen und US-amerikanischen Topspielerinnen der Vorjahre statt, da sich diese mit ihren jeweiligen Eishockeyverbänden Hockey Canada oder USA Hockey außerhalb des Spielbetriebs in einem gesonderten Vorbereitungsprogramm auf das Olympische Eishockeyturnier befanden.
